Our History

Seal of Grace Bible Church, headquartered in Tarkwa, Ghana, began in 2016 when a group of young believers, led by Samuel Koffie, sought clarity on key spiritual issues in the church they were attending (name withheld). These youth were concerned about why speaking in tongues was discouraged and why the movement of the Holy Spirit seemed resisted. They also questioned why certain pastors were permitted to teach esoteric and mystic doctrines and participate in organizations that conflicted with biblical teachings.

On July 15, 2016, the group officially wrote to their church leadership, seeking answers. This led to a general meeting on July 23, 2016, in Anyinase, where the leadership, pastors, and these youth gathered. The responses given at the meeting deeply unsettled the group. Moved by the Holy Spirit, Samuel Koffie stood up, reproved the leadership, and, overwhelmed with emotion, fell to the ground, weeping.

The following day, July 24, 2016, the group from Prestea and Tarkwa met at Mr. Koffieʼs residence to pray and seek direction. During this meeting, Koffie gave an exhortation from Ephesians 6, focusing on the weapons of spiritual warfare. The group decided not to disband and attend separate churches, as had happened with previous movements of the Holy Spirit, but rather to remain united and seek Godʼs guidance together. During one of their prayer SGBC2sessions, the Holy Spirit provided clear direction, leading to the first prayer meeting on August 5, 2016, at the Tarkwa Methodist School, Nzemaline.

Members from Prestea joined the Tarkwa members on the 7th August 2016 for the first official Sunday service in the classroom whilst Tarkwa members also travelled to Prestea the next Sunday, 14th August 2016 for a joint service in Prestea also held in a classroom. Other members from Accra, Anyinase, Asaasetre joined their Tarkwa and Prestea counterpart for a General Meeting in Takoradi from the 17th to 20th August 2016 where there was general agreement to come together and establish a church.

On August 7, 2016, members from Prestea joined the Tarkwa group for the first official Sunday service, held in a classroom. The following Sunday, August 14, 2016, the Tarkwa members traveled to Prestea for a joint service, also in a classroom. As the movement grew, members from Accra, Anyinase, and Asaasetre joined their counterparts from Tarkwa and Prestea for a General Meeting in Takoradi from August 1720, 2016, where they agreed to establish a church together..

In November 2023, the Tarkwa and Prestea branches rebranded as Seal of Grace Bible Church to align more closely with the original vision, mission, and values centered on the Bible and the Word of God. Seal of Grace Bible Church is registered with the Registrar General of Ghana and continues to grow rapidly, with representation both locally and internationally.

What we Stand for

Seal of Grace Bible Church stands firm in the teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Holy Spirit-Filled and Empowered Life

We believe that it is the will of God that believers walk in the Spirit moment by moment, serving the Lord and bearing the fruit of the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30-32; Galatians 5:22-23).

Christ-Exalting

We believe the scripture is all about Jesus. (John 5:39-40; John 5:45-46) and that Jesus is the mystery of God (Colossians 2:1-3). The life of a believer must therefore be all about Jesus Christ. As such every sermon at SGBC must point people to Jesus Christ.

Practical Christian Living

We believe that it is the will of God that those who have been born again grow in sanctification, become partakers of His holiness, and daily grow stronger in the faith, power, prayer, love, and service (2 Corinthians 7:1).

Financial prudence

We believe that people must give voluntarily and not done under compulsion (2 Corinthians 9:7). The church discourages appeal for funds and coercive giving strategies and encourage all giving to be done in private and secrecy.

Word-Centered

Seal of Grace Bible Church takes the Bible as its all-sufficient source of faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:16. We believe the ministry of the word must be prioritized (Acts 6:4)

Prayer-based

The house of God is the house of prayer. We are a praying church and emphasize that prayer is the lifeline of every believer (Mark 11:17; Isaiah 56:7; Luke 18:1; 1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Grace-filled

We believe that salvation is wholly through grace; that no human righteousness or merit can contribute to our receiving God’s love and favor (Ephesians 2:8).
